House District 70 is located entirely in the City of Newport News, encompassing the northeastern portion of the city. With a population of approximately 86,000 and over 61,000 registered voters, the 70th District has 19 precincts including: Denbigh, Stoney Run, Jenkins, Mcintosh, Oyster Point, Stoneybrook, Richneck, Windsor, Greenwood, Boulevard, Charles, Mariner’s Museum, Deep Creek, Hidenwood, Knollwood Meadows, Riverside, Sanford, Yates, and Riverview, along with 4 different zip codes: 23602, 23603, 23606, 23608. The District represents the diversity of Virginia with residents identifying as 44% white, 37% African American, 4% Asian American Pacific Islander, and 10% Latino according to the Virginia Public Access Project. Nearly half of the district has a college degree. The median household income is $59,000, which is only slightly less than the median income in Virginia overall.
